Hideaway is mainly a residential city and primarily a gated community located in Smith County, Texas, and 13 miles northwest of Tyler, TX. Originally, Hideaway was included in the 750 acre plantation owned by former Texas Governor, Richard B. Hubbard. The land was later purchased and developed, and came to be known as "Hide-A-Way Lake." Today, the residents of Hideaway Lake enjoy a 27-hole golf course, complete with a Pro Shop and PGA Professional; four parks, tennis and basketball courts; playgrounds; a Junior Olympic sized swimming pool; on-site dining facilities and catering options for private parties; and an on-site Emergency Medical Service base.
